Methodology

A score you can defend in a partners' meeting.

Every company in your patch gets a Prospect Score out of 100. Here's exactly what goes into it — because a number you can't explain is a number you can't act on.

What the score weighs

Net asset value — the anchor

Real net assets parsed from filed accounts dominate the score. A company that discloses a small balance sheet outranks one that discloses nothing — disclosure is a signal.

Local fit

Companies in your towns and postcodes rank above the edge of your patch. Fit tiers are derived from your own screener settings.

Sector fit

Weighted towards the sectors you actually serve.

Size & complexity

Officer count, employees, group accounts, charges: proxies for a client that needs a real accountant, not an app.

Timing triggers

Signals that it's a good moment to approach — like a confirmation statement falling due in the next fortnight.

Contactability & risk

Companies you can actually reach score above brass plates, and Gazette notices pull a score down, hard.

The reasoning, in writing.

Under every score sits a sentence like:

"High priority: net assets £8.0m (filed accounts to 2025-08-31); active company; in North Devon; Property / Real estate sector; 5 officers, 279 employees; confirmation statement due in 12 days (good time to approach)."

That's the score's working, shown. If the underlying figures are missing from the record, the reason says so.

Honesty clause

What the score is not.

A Prospect Score is a prioritisation aid — a ranking of where your next conversation is most likely to be worth having. It is not a valuation, not a credit rating, and not a promise. We'd rather you trust it for what it is than believe it's something it isn't.

Tunable

Your idea of a good client.

Weights adapt per firm — your patch, your sectors, your view of what makes a client worth winning. The scoring bends to your practice, not the other way round.
